I was looking on Facebook over the weekend, and a friend of mine shared a photo from a store she was in. All you could see were lighted and decorated Christmas trees. You read that correctly. And it wasn’t in a Christmas store.

Because we had the Winter from Hell this year, as soon as it got warm enough this spring, I began to open one of the windows in my home office to let in some cool breezes and to smell the pleasant outside air. One day, Riley noticed that the window was open and that if […]

This past winter was nasty. It was freezing cold, overcast, and snowy. I think if it had snowed one more time, many Marylanders would have been arrested for disturbing the peace. I know I might have been, as I would have been reduced to running screaming through the streets, waving my fist at the sky, […]

Feeling under the weather? And I don’t mean the snow… I was too, recently. Despite eating well, exercising, taking vitamins, getting enough sleep, and doing anything else I could to stay healthy, I caught the dreaded “What’s Going Around.”

Do you know when the Olympics are taking place? No, me neither… It’s not like we can turn on the television, radio, internet, or even look at any magazine or newspaper without knowing what the latest event is and who won, who lost, who’s too fat, who’s too thin, who let everyone down, and who […]

I consider myself a positive person overall. I work at it sometimes, but I like living life with the glass half full. That said, one of the reasons I love living in Maryland is because we get all four seasons—winter, spring, summer, and fall. Really. I love them. I can’t imagine living somewhere and have […]

Dear Readers—I know you’re out there, and sometimes I even hear from you. Such was the case when Essex resident Howard Sheckells wrote to me. He suggested a column topic that hits close to home for everyone—especially if you’ll be heading to the grocery store to shop for Thanksgiving dinner.

There are two radio stations in central New York State that have begun playing Christmas music… Um, you do remember that it’s only October, right? In fact, it’s hot right now. “Indian Summer,” as we used to call it when I was a kid, has shown up, and we actually had to put the air […]

I originally had a different column for you to read this week—one that you’ll see soon, but not today. Because when you look outside your office window in late March and see more than four inches of snow on the ground, with more falling, well, you just need to comment on it. Really? I mean, […]

We’ve all heard the phrase “Christmas in July.” But when did that become the time when stores began decorating for it? I’m all about the holidays; don’t get me wrong. I love the lights, the food, the decorations, the train gardens, the festivities, the parties, the spiritual celebrations…I absolutely love it all. But when some […]
