As I write this, it’s the middle of February, and while I long for spring, there’s something else I could really use right now. A big, honking snowstorm. Yeah, I know. We complain about it when it snows. We shovel it. We hoard food when it’s about to happen. And, as I mentioned, we complain […]

My husband and I have two dogs: Riley, the overactive pup, and, Mae. Her name isn’t really Mae, but she prefers to go by a pseudonym. She’s a proper Southern lady, having come to us via Alabama, and she doesn’t want her friends to know if she’s done something wrong. If that happened, there would […]

Since it’s springtime, my husband and I thought that we should do something to celebrate…like repainting parts of the outside of our home. Yeah, we really know how to party. I enjoy painting, but I have to admit that I didn’t always. Back in 6th grade, my mom decided that we should update my bedroom. […]

I consider myself a positive person overall. I work at it sometimes, but I like living life with the glass half full. That said, one of the reasons I love living in Maryland is because we get all four seasons—winter, spring, summer, and fall. Really. I love them. I can’t imagine living somewhere and have […]

I originally had a different column for you to read this week—one that you’ll see soon, but not today. Because when you look outside your office window in late March and see more than four inches of snow on the ground, with more falling, well, you just need to comment on it. Really? I mean, […]

We’ve all heard the phrase “Christmas in July.” But when did that become the time when stores began decorating for it? I’m all about the holidays; don’t get me wrong. I love the lights, the food, the decorations, the train gardens, the festivities, the parties, the spiritual celebrations…I absolutely love it all. But when some […]

As a city girl transplanted into the country, I’ve had a lot that I’ve needed to learn to get used to. But there’s one thing that is driving me absolutely batty. And it’s not the bats that fly overhead at night (way overhead, thank goodness).

Ahhhh…spring is officially here. The birds are singing, plants are blooming, and some days have actually been warm. So why do we insist on celebrating the arrival of such a momentous, beautiful season by cleaning? That’s just so wrong.
