As a city girl transplanted into the country, I’ve had a lot that I’ve needed to learn to get used to. But there’s one thing that is driving me absolutely batty. And it’s not the bats that fly overhead at night (way overhead, thank goodness).

I’ve said before that I was born and raised a city girl. For a number of years, though, my husband and I have lived in the country; some people refer to it as “the sticks.” For the most part, I love it. I love the sound of crickets at night. I love watching tons of […]

Ahhhh…spring is officially here. The birds are singing, plants are blooming, and some days have actually been warm. So why do we insist on celebrating the arrival of such a momentous, beautiful season by cleaning? That’s just so wrong.

I don’t like bugs.
Really. I can’t stand them at all.
Okay, I like butterflies, but they are pretty. So I guess I don’t like ugly bugs, which leaves quite a few kabillion of them.
But I live by the adage of “Live and let live.” If they don’t bother me, I won’t bother them.

The news came to us in the form of the brightest florescent orange envelope I have ever seen. My husband proudly held it up. “Look what I got,” he said.

My husband and I, we used to like squirrels. A lot. Having grown up in the city, I was thrilled when, at our old house, we would see the occasional squirrel either jumping on or running across our fence or running up our neighbor’s tree.

The other day, my husband was out pumping the water off the pool cover so that we can get ready to open it for the season. “Ewwww, yuck,” he said with his face all squinched up. “The water on top of this pool cover is rancid.” “Come here and smell it.”

For at least the past decade, I’ve been at the age where lots of my friends have children. And one of my favorite experiences to have with them is to talk on the phone. I’m serious. I’m not being a smart aleck.

There are times when you really think you know a person, then something happens that sets your world into a tailspin. The day I discovered my husband’s ugly secret was a day like any other. No, wait.
