During quarantine, I’ve been trying to spend time outside each day. I watch the squirrels, listen to the birds, and commune with nature. Actually, I’m mainly getting out so that I don’t completely lose it being stuck in the house most of the time. Lately, though, I’ve also been watching my husband. Before I get […]

Friends have told me for years that they think weird stuff happens to me just so I have material for my column. I usually protest and say, “No. It’s just that I pay more attention to the absurd things in life than you do.” But after this past weekend, I have to wonder if they’re […]

I was looking on Facebook over the weekend, and a friend of mine shared a photo from a store she was in. All you could see were lighted and decorated Christmas trees. You read that correctly. And it wasn’t in a Christmas store.

Riley the wonder dog must have been taught by his previous owners to play fetch with a stick. How do we know this? Because any time he goes outside, instead of doing what dogs are supposed to out there, he first runs to the nearest stick. He picks it up and then begins to run […]

There’s a saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Well, color me crazy. You know those clippy things on pens and mechanical pencils that allow you to clip them to your shirt pocket? Did you know that they have a name?

I consider myself a positive person overall. I work at it sometimes, but I like living life with the glass half full. That said, one of the reasons I love living in Maryland is because we get all four seasons—winter, spring, summer, and fall. Really. I love them. I can’t imagine living somewhere and have […]

We’ve all heard the phrase “Christmas in July.” But when did that become the time when stores began decorating for it? I’m all about the holidays; don’t get me wrong. I love the lights, the food, the decorations, the train gardens, the festivities, the parties, the spiritual celebrations…I absolutely love it all. But when some […]

I’ve said before that I was born and raised a city girl. For a number of years, though, my husband and I have lived in the country; some people refer to it as “the sticks.” For the most part, I love it. I love the sound of crickets at night. I love watching tons of […]
